Scott Hamilton is a pianist and music director based in Montana, with a diverse background in musical theatre, liturgical music and collaborative performance. A versatile musician equally at home at the piano, on the podium or behind the scenes shaping a production, Scott has developed a reputation for thoughtful musicianship, versatility and a deeply collaborative approach to performance.
A native of Chinook, Montana, Scott began piano lessons at age five with Karen Hellman and later continued his studies with Marge Holt in Havre. His early experiences established the musical foundation that would ultimately lead to work in concert performance, musical theatre, conducting and sacred music.
Scott earned his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of Montana, where he studied piano with Professor Steven K. Hesla and choral education with Dr. David Edmonds. During his university studies, he was active as a collaborative pianist, performing with vocalists, instrumentalists, ensembles and soloists. His work also included a performance appearance on Montana Public Radio.
Scott’s musical theatre experience encompasses music direction, piano performance, pit conducting, keyboard programming and arranging. His ability to move between performing, conducting, teaching and musical preparation allows him to contribute to a production from both sides of the podium.
Alongside his theatrical work, Scott has maintained a lifelong commitment to sacred and liturgical music. He began serving as a church musician in the third grade and has spent many years as a pianist and organist within the Catholic Church.
